Egon March Institute (EMI) was founded by Slovene media art pioneer Marko Košnik in 1986 as a unit for reflection, research, and production in interdisciplinary arts. From its beginning it was conceived as a platform for the joint research of artists originating in different fields of artistic activities.

"How long can a branch bow before it breaks?" is a sound installation by Ida Hiršenfelder and Hugo Lioret, composed from field recordings made in the Hambach Forest in the Rhineland. Ravaged by lignite mining, the forest becomes both subject and witness in this work, capturing the tension between its biodiversity and the destruction wrought by industrial exploitation — a poignant reflection on devastation and resilience.
