DOCOMOMO is an acronym for DOcumentation and COnservation of MOdern MOvement buildings, sites, and neighborhoods. Docomomo Slovenia is a working group that is part of the Docomomo International network. It brings together a wide range of professionals: architects, conservators, art historians, sociologists, urban planners, and landscape architects. The initiator and the first coordinator from 1990 to 2004 was the art historian Stane Bernik. From 2004 onwards, the architect Nataša Koselj has been appointed as the Docomomo Slovenia Chair. Docomomo Slovenia's main task is to register relevant Slovene Modern Movement architecture in the Docomomo International Heritage Register. The first 5 Slovene structures listed in the register are: the National and University Library (NUK), Ljubljana, by Jože Plečnik; Nebotičnik, Ljubljana, by Vladimir Šubic; Villa Oblak, Ljubljana, by France Tomažič; the Assembly of Kranj Municipality (OLO) and Trg Republike, Ljubljana, by Edvard Ravnikar.




Activities

The first international symposium, an exhibition, and an excursion, Docomomo_Case Slovenia, were organized by Docomomo Slovenia at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Ljubljana in 2005 with the Docomomo International Chair Maristella Casciato as a keynote speaker.

In 2006 an international symposium, Docomomo_Restoration of Exposed Concrete, was organized by Docomomo Slovenia at the UL Faculty of Architecture with Docomomo ISC/Technology Chair Ola Wedebrunn as a keynote speaker.

The Docomomo Slovenia working group, with Nataša Koselj as the initiator, author, graphic designer, and guest editor, published the Docomomo Slovenia_100 book, which is a bilingual selection of 100 works of architecture and urbanism by Slovene authors working during the 20th century. The catalogue is also available online at Docomomo website. The first edition was published by Architects' Bulletin (ab) in 2010; the first reprint was published in 2017 by Ustanova Ivanšek.

Following the publishing of the Docomomo Slovenia_100 book and poster, a symposium, an exhibition, and an excursion were organized by Docomomo Slovenia in Kresija Gallery in 2011, focusing on the cultural centers in Slovenia.

In 2018, the 15th international Docomomo conference Metamorphosis — The Continuity of Change, with 350 participants from all over the world, was organized in Ljubljana by Docomomo Slovenia in cooperation with Docomomo International and Cankarjev dom.

In 2024, a special issue of Docomomo Journal No. 72, The Way towards Regional Modernities, edited by Nataša Koselj and Mejrema Zatrić, was dedicated to the work of the architects Dušan Grabrijan and Juraj Neidhardt.
